In today’s world, the role of higher education is very important for people to secure a better job place. There are some people who believe that universities should teach students the knowledge and skills needed for their future career. However, some oppose this notion and they say that universities ought to educate students on their own ways, not considering the usefulness of education to the future employers. As far as I am concerned universities should consider employers’ expectations while educating students. In the following paragraphs I will support my point of view and state the functional role of universities.
To start with, many share the view that people usually enter the university in order to be ready for their future careers. Take my brother for example, he intentionally studied at the university to be a specialist in his dream job. This example makes it clear that people generally go to universities to be ready for their future career, not to gain general knowledge far from their future specialities. Considering this aspect, it is supported that universities ought to give speciality knowledge and skills for their students.
Secondly, if universities give knowledge for their own sake, not meeting employers’ expectations, people will stop attending to universities. Consequently, unemployment becomes a big headache for the society, causing many other problems. Therefore, the main role of universities should be to prepare specialists, not to give general knowledge. After considering this, it is agreed that universities should give useful knowledge to an employer.
To draw a conclusion, in consideration with the applicants’ primary aim to apply for universities and the role of universities in preparing specialists, once more I believe that higher education should be a place where specialists are prepared. So, it is recommended that universities should collaborate with employers before planning school curriculum.
