The table presents how many miles were traveled by per person per year in different means of transportation in England from 1985 to 2000.
In general, an annual distance of travelling per person increased significantly, especially on account of travel by cars, long distance bus and others in the given period.
The most popular type of transportation among Britons was cars, accounting for 3199 miles in 1985 and 4806 miles in 2000 per person. Suprisingly, miles travelled by a person on local bus, the second common transport in 1985 (429), halved in 2000, making up 274. In 1985, similar miles travelled by per person were on foot and by train, 255 and 289 miles respectively. By 2000, while this figure showed an increase of 77 miles by train, it saw a decline of 22 miles on walking. Likewise, the pattern for bicycle and long distance bus was almost the same (about 50) in 1985, before decreasing to 41 miles in bicycle and doubling in long distance bus in 2000. The least widely-used transportation- taxi nearly tripled , reaching 42miles at the same period.
