The pie chart provides information about the percentage of the average family’s food budget spent on restaurant meals and home cooking in the period from 1970 to 2000, while the line graph illustrates how many meals were eaten in fast food and sit-down restaurants during the same period.

The pie chart reveals that an average family spent 90 % of their food budget on home cooking in 1970. However, the percentage of restaurant meals increased slightly by 5 % in 1980 and this figure continued to go up, reaching 35 % in 1990. At the end of the given period, the percentage of both home cooking and restaurant meals equalised, each constituting 50 %.

In 1980, the number of sit-down restaurant meals was well over 30, more than that of fast food meals. There was a sharp leap of 30 in the number of fast food meals in 1990. Meanwhile, sit-down restaurant meals rose steeply and it was just over 40.  The figure for fast food meals boomed sharply and reached an all time high of 90 in 2000.
