It is forecast that it will increase for the rest of the period not considering the dip between 2017 and 2030, constituting 25 % at the end of the period. The figure for Japan remained steady for 30 years in a row from 1960 to 1990. Since then on, the percentage of people aged 65 and over started to rise moderately and it is anticipated that it will reach an all time high of well over 25% by the 2040.
